Week 12

I'm still updating our pictures of ultrasound, here's our kid at week 12.

If you look closely you can make out his skull. I'm not sure if the angel is from the front or back. But there's a definite jaw bone where the mouse arrow is.

If you'd like to see video of this ultrasound you can go here.

Allison has been getting bigger. According to all the books we've been reading, this is the time where the baby starts to bulk up, putting on weight and mussel.

We've been trying to make room for the upcoming child. We've been cleaning out the garage, and we've been selling a lot of stuff at work. We're trying to get rid of a rooms worth of stuff to make way for all the baby stuff that's coming our way.

The Ultimate Baby Blog

I have to say this is the ultimate baby blog. It's so detailed, it catalogs everything the baby's been asleep, it's diapers, everything. I would like this blog to be like it, but I just don't have the know how:

Another One

Here's the scan from our second ultra-sound. As you can see this one is much bigger. He/she has moved from fuzzy dot stage to Alien stage. We missed the Moose Pig stage all together. It's probably for the best. This was the first ultrasound that I could attend. It was a fun experience and it brought the reality of the fact that we're having a kid from the hypothetical to the very real for me.

I also made a video of the ultra-sound. Every time we show the video to our friends they exclaim "Oh what a great idea. I wish I thought of that." Really I was disappointed that I had to tape the monitor and I couldn't directly plug my camera into the machine. We're glad we video taped it because we can hear the doctor over again. It clears up a lot of questions we have after the fact.

You can watch the video here, I have to warn you, it's a very large file. Don't attempt it unless you have a very fast connection and a lot of time. Sorry, it was also my first attempt at putting video on line:)

Read any good books lately?

We've read that our kid can hear our voices this early. And you can start to read s/he bedtime stories. If you read them now over and over again, you can use them later when s/he's nursing and they'll have a better time nursing. Allison tells me that the baby seems to calm down when I read stories.

I felt the baby move last week. Just a bump. It's hard to distinguish it from Allison's pulse, but we both felt it at the same time so I'm pretty sure it was the baby.

Again Again

You've all have probably seen these before but I'm posting the frame grabs from our old ultrasounds on this blog for posterity reasons. This picture was from our first ultra-sound. They don't normally do ultra-sounds this early. In fact they usually won't talk to you until your eighth week. But we were scared first time parents who didn't know what to do. I didn't know if Allison's vegetarian diet would effect the baby, everything we did seemed to have the question of "Is this OK for the baby". So they squeezed Allison inbetween two appointments and did this ultrasound. I really wish I could have been there.
